Mander Organs Wins Queen’s Award for Enterprise
2002Mander Organs, a family owned and run business, has won a Queen's Award for Enterprise in International Trade for the export of pipe organs all over the world, the first pipe organ builders ever to be favoured with this award. Examples of its work are to be found in Oman, Norway, Nigeria, Turkey, the United States and Japan. The fine organ built by Mander Organs for the Church of St Ignatius Loyola on Park Avenue in New York City is the largest of its type ever to have been built by a British organ builder and has become world-renowned; helping to make St. Ignatius Loyola the "pre-eminent church venue for concerts of sacred music in New York". (New York Times)
Tucked away in an oasis in Bethnal Green with an old converted church school as its premises, Mander Organs has been quietly building a reputation as one of the world's leading organ builders; helping to keep the tradition alive and demonstrating that there is a demand for high quality craftsmanship. Currently it is refurbishing the organ in the Royal Albert Hall (which, after its restoration, will again be the largest pipe organ in the British Isles), building an organ almost as large as that for St Ignatius for a church in Atlanta, USA, and a new organ for Sydney Grammar School in Australia.
